When working with children, Mrs. Caswell likes to have an hour or two with the subject, getting acquainted and taking a lot of photographs. She will usually work from these, and from her memory of the personality of the subject. Very few children or adults are able to pose for any length of time without "glazing over." The expression which is typical of a subject, and which constitutes a "likeness," is often fleeting and fragile, is apt to disappear altogether during a sitting. The use of a camera is therefore preferred over preliminary sketches or sittings.
The usual portrait is $1800.00, with 1/3 to be paid at the the first sitting, and the remainder due when the work is delivered. The painting will be done on oils on canvas which is stretched around the stretcher bars so that no frame is required. If a frame is desired, the cost will depend on the moulding chosen.
